Play time!

Today we visited our Play Centre next door. Thank you Rebecca Sneddon for making us feel so welcome and showing us some faces of Papatuanuku, our Mother Earth.
Visits like these are invaluable for transitioning to school. Here is an impression of our visit.

This blog...

It is great to see the progress and personal growth of students. I like to share this often with parents, whanau and the wider school community.
It would be great if you, our readers, would contribute more actively so children can see and read your comments in class and perhaps write back to you.
At the bottom of new (and old) messages you will see a tab: No comments. Please click on that and leave us a small message. We would greatly appreciate that and it would give children in Room 1 a reason to write back. It would also enable them to connect with a real audience for their writing. So please leave your comments and thoughts on our blog. Thank you from Room 1!
Here is Jayden as our Superstar!

...and here we are off to another learning adventure!

Terrific Tuesday...

Just a snaphot of a very busy Tuesday. We learned about Tawhirimatea, we created wind storms, we made kites and wrote stories. We also did maths, drama, read books, printed, made things and played games. Pfew, what a day!

Gingerbread Friday!

We read the story, we played the game, we recited the poem and .....we baked some Gingerbread men.
We also decorated them, and then we ate them all up!

Independent work...

In Room 1 you will find lots of independent work being done by children. They use self assessment criteria to check if they have used everything they have learned.
I was reminded of this when I saw this poster on a blog by a teaching guru. Her name is Karen Boyes, she writes a very informative blog about all the ups and downs in education.
You will find her blog here:   Karen Tui Boyes. (Click on link).

Term 2

Here we are...at the start of a brand new term. This term our focus will be on Science: The Physical World. We will be conducting simple tests and observe and share findings.

On one of our classroom walls is a whanau tree. Your child can put up a photograph there of their family, so family photos will be welcome!

We will start the new term with two more pupils, Joseph Schwass and Fred Meredith. Happy Birthday boys! We now have 13 boys and 5 girls in Room 1.

Our time table has been slighty altered. We are trialling a new daily time table with 3 morning blocks, and 1 afternoon block. There will be a 10 minute stop at 10.05, time for a piece of fruit.
There will be a 20 minute morning tea break at 11.05. Lessons  continue at 11.35 until 12.35 (lunch time). Afternoon lessons will start at 1.30 until 3pm.

Our library time remains the same, Tuesday afternoons. We will have PE on Monday afternoons and Thursday afternoons.

Homework books will be coming home again tomorrow.  You can comment on this blog, or use the Homework book for that purpose as well.

Wishing everyone an exciting learning term!

Ka kite, Gertie.

Friendship seat...

Some children in Room 1 were feeling a bit lonely during play time, so we talked about a Friendship seat. If you are feeling lonely you sit on the seat outside of Room 2. Other children will check regularly to see if they can pick someone up to play with. We made up signs for the seat and put them on the seat! Tumeke!
