We are learning about Vincent Van Gogh. We wrote a story about his life and we are making a painting like Vincent’s Starry Night Sky. Here is some of our work!

Our past...
We have been learning about the past, especially the area where our school is. Therefor we visited the Te Waotu Playcentre, which is the first, age old Te Waotu Native School. We visited the Barnett Bush, which is a remnant of bush that existed before the great Taupo eruption in AD 186. Children in Room 1 have been very busy writing about their history!
We have been listening to Maori myths and legends and found out how Maori women first learned to weave: from observing! We learned to weave a kete!

Quick art...
We were asked to produce some art works with Calf Club Day as our inspiration. We sketched, traced lines with felts, filled in larger spaces with oil pastels and then painted it all over with green dye.
Here is our work!

Art
Soft pencil and charcoal art. We learned to sketch, shade with charcoal and rub with our fingers to make the charcoal blend in. Tumeke!
(P.S. You could hear a pin drop!)

Our art...
We have been learning about Aotearoa, our stories and our people. We have been putting together a waka with all of our art works. Our work is nearly finished...!
Billie Bear, meanwhile, has been visiting quite a few children. Here he is, showing off their work!
Bye Billie, see you tomorrow!
