The week that was..

...and what a beautiful week it was. Gorgeous summer weather, playing touch with parents, playing in the sand pit, climbing trees... and working hard in class.

We have been looking at patterns, making patterns and of course robbing stories from somewhere to retell them with beginning, middle and end! Thanks Mrs Hunt for helping us!

Hundreds, Tens and Ones!

Fred and Ben are learning to break 3 digit numbers into Hundreds, Tens and Ones. They can do it really well. We then made numbers using Hundreds, Tens and Ones. Making 1000 was a bit of a challenge!

Maths this week...

Here are some of our youngest students. They are learning to add and subtract using their animal bus. This bus fits exactly 10 creatures. They can do this quickly and correctly. They can also read the problem!!

Maths time today...

We have been learning about making 5 and making 10. Children in Room 1 are learning them often, so they have instant recall.

Here is one team working with teddy bears in their little houses - making 5!

 ...hmm, it certainly went beyond 5!

The other team has been learning about making 10. Today they learned to play a card game: Go fish.
Each player gets 5 cards and has to ask another player for a card to complete their 10. If that player hasn't got the requested card they get told to "Go Fish!"  They then have to pick up another card and the other player continues the game.  It was lots of fun and competition!

Thinking time...science time!

Last week the children observed water being evaporated by the sun. There was a lot of discussion with Mr Hunt!  Today they drew the water cycle. Good learning Room 1!

We looked at odd and even numbers. We decided to share equally to find out if a number was odd or even.   Kapai Room 1!

Making 5s and 10s...

Making 5 or 10 with pegboards and 2 colours only.
We can now easily see what makes 5 or 10!

Dinosaurs were huge!

We found some information in a book, went outside and drew this dinosaur on the concrete. It gave us a good idea about the size of the beast. We also had a taste of measuring with the metre ruler.
