Writing in Room 1

Students in Room 1 love to write!  They come in early in the morning and start writing straight away! They write messages to each other, ‘reports’ for parents and each other, messages for parents, and the most loved activity.... free writing!

A long story by Louis about him and his Dad visiting the moon...

No time to take my bus vest off,  I must write!

Adjectives and specific verbs....

We are learning about adjectives and specific verbs in a bid to lift the ability to write rich sentences.  Here is some of our work.  We did a bit of drama before we wrote a variety of sentences using different verbs.

Here are our adjectives we chose after going on an adjective hunt in class.

Space... Reach for the Stars!

We have been learning about Space.  Here are some of the facts we remembered!

We have also talked about astronauts and why they need protection in Space. Here are all the Room 1 Space Ship Commanders!

The week that was..

...and what a beautiful week it was. Gorgeous summer weather, playing touch with parents, playing in the sand pit, climbing trees... and working hard in class.

We have been looking at patterns, making patterns and of course robbing stories from somewhere to retell them with beginning, middle and end! Thanks Mrs Hunt for helping us!

Designing a pattern for awesome undies!
We made some awesome patterns too...

This week...

Today Mr Hunt came to school with Pepetuna, the Puriri moth. We shared a book, we decorated a poem, and...we made our own Pepetuna. It takes 5 years for one to hatch and then they live for only a day or two. They are very beautiful!

On Fridays we also share something we bring from home. Can you see our question keys in the middle of our circle?  We ask questions that start with one of these words.

Here is also our schedule for the interviews next week. Please phone our school office if you would still like to see me for an interview and you're not on the list!

Billie Bear

For many years now, Billie Bear has been part of Room 1. He goes home with a Room 1 child for one night. They draw or write about  their adventures with Billie in his book. They share their story the next day.

Billie has had a bath, his clothes have been washed, and he has a new carry bag. Lucky Billie!

This week...

This week we learned about adjectives, verbs and characters from books. Our author of the week was Julia Donaldson. Some of her books are: The Gruffalo, Zog, Room on the broom, The Stick Man ...just to name a few. We've also learned to use expression in our voice while thinking of poor Stick Man. Can you hear the despair in Stick Man's voice?

We have also shown all of our work at Friday's assembly.  Here we are:
