Reading programme in Room 1

In Room 1 we start with reading books at Magenta level, followed by Red,  Yellow, Blue and Green books. The colours relate to  age levels as well. According to National Standards your child should be reading at Green level by the end of their first year at school. We start reading at Magenta and aim for children to reach Green level in their first year at school, so Magenta to Green equates to 5 to 6 years of age.
Here are our Reading Rockets with learning aims at each colour.  You will find this information also in your child's home work book.

Reading time

At reading time we discuss a book, retell the book and then do a literacy activity on the book. Children have to draw the main character and 3 things that happened in the story.

Fun Friday!

"Greedy Cat is hungry", was a favourite book today. We discussed characters and turned the book into a play!
We drew Greedy Cat, and we worked some more on Splat the Cat.
We studied a new poem: "Look". We all have a Greedy Cat book in our book bags as well.

Quiet Reading Teepee in Room 1!

Our very own teepee where we can read books in 3 different ways.
1: We look at the pictures and tell our own story.
2: We know the story and retell it.
3: We read the words.
