Poems in Room 1

We will read poems often in Room 1. These poems will come home, pasted in a book. They are for sharing with your child. Please read them together, encouraging your child to use expression, varying the tone and pace of their reading.  Poetry helps children understand more about fluency and rhythm in reading.

On some days your child may have a poem, instead of a reader, as their home reading. On Fridays your child will have the class poem of the week to share at home. They may like to share some of the other poems in their poetry book at the same time.  This reading should be short, fun and enjoyable.

The poetry books should be returned to school on Mondays.

Today we got our first poem. We circled our special word I and also circled the letter i.
When we first learn to read we must point at every word!
