Maths time today...

We have been learning about making 5 and making 10. Children in Room 1 are learning them often, so they have instant recall.

Here is one team working with teddy bears in their little houses - making 5!
...hmm, it certainly went beyond 5!

The other team has been learning about making 10. Today they learned to play a card game: Go fish.
Each player gets 5 cards and has to ask another player for a card to complete their 10. If that player hasn't got the requested card they get told to "Go Fish!"  They then have to pick up another card and the other player continues the game.  It was lots of fun and competition!

We thought a lot about winter this week! We wrote about hibernating animals. We looked at the letter 'w' and its blends. We created some wintery art scenes. Here are some of them!

The week so far...

What a busy week!
Ryker came for his second visit. Can you see him having a 'brain break' with his friends?
We have also been learning about writing facts. We have been learning about animals in winter. We looked at hedgehogs and polar bears. We discovered that they hibernate in winter!

Term 3...!

Welcome to a whole new term. We start this term with 16 children in Room 1. Later on this term we are going to welcome Ryker Hunt, who will be turning 5 soon!
At the start of this term we will revisit what it means to be a learner in Room 1. We will be thinking about what we have learned already and what we will need to learn next.
The story we are focusing on is "The little train who could!"
Research has shown that children who know what they are learning will accelerate at a faster rate!

Our learning wall...

Children in Room 1 are becoming much more aware of what they are learning in reading, writing and maths. They are actively involved with deciding what their personal next steps in these learning areas are. They are learning to do their own self assessment and can track their progress on the learning wall!

Play time!

Today we visited our Play Centre next door. Thank you Rebecca Sneddon for making us feel so welcome and showing us some faces of Papatuanuku, our Mother Earth.
Visits like these are invaluable for transitioning to school. Here is an impression of our visit.

Self assessment in writing

We are getting very good at articulating our learning and we are only 5!!!
